"We are humbled and honoured to belong to this wonderful organisation which enables children who live with cancer to have fun in a positive stress free environment. We were both introduced to Camp Quality 8 years ago through our involvement in the Lions Organisation, and we were impressed by the calibre of the well trained companions and staff who, as volunteers, give up a week of their lives so happily to help children and families who have been through a tough time.
Having brought up a healthy family of or own, we saw this as an awesome way to give something back to those less fortunate than ourselves.
From our home town, Levin, we coordinate a dedicated & highly organised team from throughout the lower North Island to provide a fun filled camp. Though the planning is long and entailed, when we see the children arrive on the bus, and have an absolutely fantastic time, it is worth every bit of the effort."

Summer Camp 2012
Summer camps stir memories of tents, barbeques and mossies, but youngsters attending Camp Quality Wellington/Central Districts know it to be so much more.To the delight of sixty-two children, each living with cancer, Hastings recently provided a summer camp like no other. Leaving memories of hospitals and treatment behind, the children came anticipating all the fun, laughter and friendships that Camp Quality is famous for.
Travelling from their homes, spread across the lower North Island, along side their own special “companions”, the children (aged 5-14) came well prepared for their six-day stay at Camp Quality’s Hogwarts at Lindisfarne College, Hastings.
The real fun began with a journey on the ‘real’ Hogwarts Express, courtesy of Feilding & Districts Steam Rail Society - a wonderful start to an exciting time away from home.
No visit to the sunny Hawkes Bay is complete without a day at Splash Planet, where everyone got wet and wild, enjoying bumper boats, hydro slides and the never-ending river.
A “top town” style sports day is a well-loved tradition, and campers and companions, dressed in their team colours, undertook a variety of challenges in the Try-Wizard Tournament. Then, in keeping with the “Magical World of Harry Potter”, an afternoon was spent preparing potions, practising flying, caring for magical creatures, and taming the Venomous Tentacular in Herbology Class.
The fun continued at the National Aquarium of New Zealand in Napier, where everyone made lots of new fishy friends.
Electives are an opportunity for campers to choose between a visit to Arataki Honey Farm & Pernel Fruit World, the thrills of river-rafting, or creative and craft fun making their very own dragon eggs.

On the final morning, after packing, the lowering of the camp flag marked the end of another amazing year at camp, with plenty of hugs before tired happy campers and their faithful companions boarded the buses for home.
David Lea, Committee Member for Camp Quality Wellington/Central Districts commented, “The local support from individuals, businesses, and service clubs has been fantastic. They have all been so generous. Our sincere thanks especially to Feilding & Districts Steam Rail Society, Kiwirail & Pub Charity, for helping us provide such a memorable start to an incredible week for our Camp Quality family.”
