"We are humbled and honoured to belong to this wonderful organisation which enables children who live with cancer to have fun in a positive stress free environment. We were both introduced to Camp Quality 8 years ago through our involvement in the Lions Organisation, and we were impressed by the calibre of the well trained companions and staff who, as volunteers, give up a week of their lives so happily to help children and families who have been through a tough time.
Having brought up a healthy family of or own, we saw this as an awesome way to give something back to those less fortunate than ourselves.
From our home town, Levin, we coordinate a dedicated & highly organised team from throughout the lower North Island to provide a fun filled camp. Though the planning is long and entailed, when we see the children arrive on the bus, and have an absolutely fantastic time, it is worth every bit of the effort."

Camp Quality Companions – Registration of Interest

We are now taking registrations from people who are interested in being considered for a Companion role at Camp Quality Wellington/Central Districts' next Camp held 17-22 January 2012.

It is important to note that we are expecting more companions to volunteer than there will be places for on camp.  That said, we want to encourage everyone to actively recruit high quality companions to ensure the continued success of camp.  The following outlines the training and selection process.

  1. Registration of Interest - Now!  The first activity for both new and experienced companions is attending training. We need people to register for this event.  Please complete this form.  By doing so you are committing to attend the upcoming Camp Quality training from Saturday 3rd - Sunday 4th September 2011.  Please note that there is a cost to Camp Quality for every person who registers for training.  Therefore, please make sure you are fully committed to attending.  Training is an important and compulsory part of camp.   Experienced companions who have a genuine reason for not being able to attend training this year can apply to the Regional Manager for an exemption.  However, preference will be given to those who can attend training. New companions must attend the training.  If you still have questions and are not ready to commit to attending training yet, click here to send our Companion Registrar an email.  They will be more than happy to provide you more information.
  2. Training Confirmation - August.  In August we will confirm that you have a place on the training weekend and will send out the full registration and police check forms.  These need to be completed and sent back by 1 September.
  3. Training Weekend – 3rd-4th September.  This is a weekend of fun and learning where you get equipped with all the knowledge and skills for camp as well as being given a chance to get to know the other prospective companions.  This year it is being held at Highland Home which is just out of Ashurst near Palmerston North.  Prior to and during training, staff will be evaluating prospective companions.  We are looking for companions who show commitment, have a good group fit, and uphold the special nature of our camp.  Most importantly, we are looking for companions that are a good match with the campers that we have for the upcoming camp.  This may mean that you are not selected one year but are in subsequent years (or vice versa).
  4. Acceptance on camp – October.  If unfortunately there isn’t a child for you this year you will be notified in October.
  5. Orientation – end of November / beginning of December.  The format of orientation this year will be slightly different from previous years with the main focus being team building and getting to know those who will be in the same dorm as you.  At orientation you will find the details of the child you have been paired with.  The date for this has not been finalised but we will notify you as soon as it has been.
  6. Camp Preparation – December & January.  After orientation you are expected to make contact with your child and if possible to visit.  Many issues that can occur at camp aren’t an issue for those companions who build up a great relationship with their child prior to camp.  You want to come along having already built some rapport.
  7. Camp Quality Wellington/Central Districts annual camp ~ 17-22 January 2012
