"We are humbled and honoured to belong to this wonderful organisation which enables children who live with cancer to have fun in a positive stress free environment. We were both introduced to Camp Quality 8 years ago through our involvement in the Lions Organisation, and we were impressed by the calibre of the well trained companions and staff who, as volunteers, give up a week of their lives so happily to help children and families who have been through a tough time.
Having brought up a healthy family of or own, we saw this as an awesome way to give something back to those less fortunate than ourselves.
From our home town, Levin, we coordinate a dedicated & highly organised team from throughout the lower North Island to provide a fun filled camp. Though the planning is long and entailed, when we see the children arrive on the bus, and have an absolutely fantastic time, it is worth every bit of the effort."

Camp Quality Companion Information
What is the role of a Companion?
For every child/camper who registers with our program, a one-on-one companion is assigned.
Companions ensure their child has continuous opportunites to challenge themselves, make new friends and have lots of fun. Relationships with the child and their family are built before Camp, so that when they arrive, the children have an instant friend. Companions are big kids who remember how to be little kids.
Being a companion is extremely rewarding and many companions have served for several years. By committing a little time and offering your friendship, you can bring a great deal of joy into a young life through fun activities .
A companion's dedication and commitment is the backbone of our program. A companion is expected to have fun and to fully participate in all the activities their assigned camper chooses while being a positive role model.
Our next Volunteers Training dates are 17-18th September 2010 .
(Note that it is essential to attend this training to be eligible for selectionto attend our next Camp in January 2011)
Justin, one of our companions, shares his experience ...
Camp Quality has this funny ability to draw you in and get you doing very strange things but still want to go back for more. Who would ever believe that an 8 year old girl could convince a 6 foot companion that the pink nail polish would probably go best with that scrunchy he is wearing, and that no one would think anything of it? Or that an entire play could be written, cast, rehearsed, directed and performed in one day by a 10 year old and that 150 people would be at the opening performance?!
For all that you give to Camp Quality it gives back to you in so many other ways. I have made lifelong friends, have learnt not to take my own life quite so seriously, and been welcomed into a family that is like no other. Most importantly I have learnt that laughter really is the best medicine.
Not only does Camp Quality let kids be kids again, but for one week every year, it lets us adults be kids again too."
