About Camp Quality

What's in a name?

In 1983, an English-born woman called Vera Entwistle, arrived in Australia and soon set up a support programme for children with cancer and their families.

A doctor gave Vera the idea for a name, when he told her "No-one can do anything about the quantity of anyone's life, but all of us can do something about the quality."

From this humble idea Camp Quality was born, and now operates in 20 countries, with over 5000 families participating in Camp Quality programmes throughout the world each year.

Who are we?

Camp Quality Wellington/Central Districts is, one of five camps around New Zealand, dedicated to continuing the founding philosophy of bringing fun, hope and happiness to the lives of children aged 5 to 14 living with cancer (and their families) through provision of high quality recreational experiences.

Our Camp Quality Wellington/Central Districts region covers from Gisborne & Hawkes Bay, across to New Plymouth and down to Wellington.

Camp Quality takes children out of the hospital environment and allows them to enjoy themselves in an environment where they can forget about their illness.

Adult volunteers help to supervise the activities and provide companionship for the children, and a special team of nurses take care of the children's medical needs. Each Camp is carefully planned, by our dedicated team of volunteer staff, to provide a wide range of enjoyable activities which will appeal to children of all ages and abilities.

Other support activities are run during the course of the year. These include, Family Days, Reunion Days, Mini-camps and social outings.
